Though the Fire Troupe is a registered society with the University of Cambridge, we welcome any and all performers, from the town, from ARU, from anywhere, as well as from  the University of Cambridge itself.

Fire Nights

Fire nights happen every Monday night, on Jesus Green (see map, below). On regular nights we do ask for a £2 sub per person to cover our paraffin costs. We start our fire nights at 8pm in the winter and spring seasons and 9pm during summer. Do sign up to our mailing list to stay informed of upcoming fire night dates.

A drizzle of rain or some frost on the ground doesn’t usually stop us from heading to Jesus Green to practise, but if we are rained off, then we may need to cancel.

We bring our firetoys for everyone to use: Contact staffs, fire poi, fire ropes, fire swords, palm torches, fire fans, even fire hoola hoops! It’s all there for you to use and enjoy. (We also occasionally remember to bring a lighter with us!)

Workshops

Occasionally we hold skills- and performance- oriented workshops at our fire nights and indoor practice sessions. Previous workshops include performance-technique, staff, poi, contact-staff, and even traditional Indian dance! Again, sign up to our mailing list to stay informed.

Indoor Practice Sessions

Indoor practice sessions happen on a Saturday, at Clare College squash courts. The best bit? It’s free! And there's cake! Please sign up to our mailing list to stay informed of times and workshop themes.

We book one or two squash courts on these evenings, put on some music, and have a more relaxed spin together. This is a much better environment for learning new tricks, sharing skills, or picking up a new toy - stuff you don’t want to be doing when it’s on fire!

We don’t have that great a supply of practice equipment at the moment, so we do encourage you to bring your own practise staffs, sock-poi, juggling balls, etc. Come to the prop making workshops to make your own free equipment!
